Black Screen Social

Posted By: Mark Aplet 1 Comment July 14, 2010

This month we are holding our first "Black Screen Social". Which is really just a fancy way to say that I have been too busy to actually prepare a topic.

A Black Screen Social is a night where we get together for our two hours to socialize, show off what we are working on, get some feedback, ask questions, but not have a specific topic on the agenda. I will be returning from vacation on Wed. and will try my best to attend the event. However, even in my absence I will make sure there is pizza and drinks available for those that show up.

Kickoff Meeting

Posted By: Mark Aplet 3 Comments November 12, 2009

In an effort to kick off the meeting series for the Web Standards Group and start building some momentum for this group, there will be a general, open discussion meeting on November 18th at 6:30PM at Round Table Pizza on Arena Blvd in the Bell-Air shopping center. Here is the address, 3290 Arena Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95834, Caution! Both Google and Bing place the location on the wrong side of the freeway. However, it is right off the freeway to the west a few hundred feet. Here is a link to the google map for Bell-Air in the same shopping center. http://is.gd/4RjSh

This initial meeting will be a general open topic meeting as well as a meet and greet. I would like to discuss openly our location options, meeting dates, group name, future topics, as well as encourage sign-ups for presentations, etc. If you have a topic that you think would be good, let's get it in the queue.

See you there!

Announcing the Sacramento Web Standards Group

Posted By: Mark Aplet 8 Comments November 06, 2009

Hello and welcome. I am very excited to be officially announcing the Sacramento Web Standards Group. This group is just forming so details are still a bit hazy. This post will be updated as developments unfold.

Location

I have several promising locations. However, if you should know of a good location please let me know in the comments below. Here is what I have so far:

Dates

My initial thought was to meet once a month on Wednesday; possibly the first Wednesday of each month. Thinking something cliché like "Web Wednesday" might help people remember.

It was mentioned that two other prominent user groups meet already meet on the second Tuesday of the month and the third Thursday of the month so we should avoid those days if possible.

Domain Names

Because I have been thinking about creating this group for soem time now, I have already purchased a series of domain names that we can choose to use. I am torn between all of them so I wanted to get your feedback on what domain name makes the most sence to use. Here they are in no particular order: (okay it's acutally alphabetial order)

  1. saccss.com
  2. sacstandards.com
  3. sacstandardsgroup.com
  4. sacwebmeetup.com
  5. sacwebstandards.com

UPDATE: I created an online poll for the domain name issue. Please vote for the domain name that you think best represents our group. This will become the main domain name for the group. I will let the remaining names expire unless we have a compelling reason to keep them.
