Posted By: Mark Aplet No Comments November 13, 2010

November must be special. We have two presentations this time! First, Andy Ford is going to introduce us to Syntactically Awesome Stylesheets (SASS) also known as "Sassy CSS" (SCSS). If you have never heard of SASS or SCSS then your in for a treat. It may just change the way you think about writing css.

Our second presentation comes from Bill Mead who just returned from An Event Apart (AEA) excited and full of of valuable information. Bill plans to unload some of the highlights from Jared Spool's "The Anatomy of a Design Decision" presentation.

With two presentations, I think November will be a great month to attend. Hope to see you there.

Also, don't forget We now have a book library. So if you want to check something out just let me know at the meeting.

Intro to HTML5

Posted By: Mark Aplet 3 Comments June 08, 2010

A new epoch in application development is emerging as our traditional concepts of computer programs and web sites converge into rich, full-featured web applications.  HTML5 is steadily becoming the standard toolset for building these applications and while some details of it are still being finalized, it is stable enough to start learning and using today.  Micah Young will be presenting the basics of HTML5 and CSS3, including why we need them, what has changed, and how we can start using them right now.  Micah will start with an overview and continue with plenty of working demos  for your enjoyment. Including HTML4 to HTML5 code comparisons and some development tips that will get you started right!

Skill Level: No prior HTML5 knowledge is necessary but a solid familiarity with current HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is recommended.

Posted By: Mark Aplet No Comments April 07, 2010

Object Oriented CSS (OOCSS) put plain and simple is a css framework or a methodology in which to build lightweight reusable css code. In this presentation, Mark Aplet will focus on the methodology and principals of OOCSS and less on the actual framework by Nicole Sullivan. The core principals are applicable to anyone coding css. The goal of this presentation is to get you to think about how you can apply object oriented CSS to your coding workflow.
