Every Browser on One Computer: Using Virtual Machines to Developing on Multiple Browsers and Devicess

Posted By: Mark Aplet 3 Comments February 14, 2011

You can finally turn off all your extra test computers and quit borrowing phones and hitting up friends to test your new website.  Free virtual machine software and device emulators can run any web browser on any platform you want, right on your normal development computer.

We will be introduce you to virtual machines and show you how to use them to run the most common browsers: WindowsXP (IE7), Windows7 (IE9), OS X (Safari), iOS (Safari for iPhone & iPad), Android (default browser & Opera).  We'll also show how to integrate them into your normal design & development process.

Bring your own laptop (Windows, Linux or Mac) and after the presentation we'll take some time to help you setup your own virtual machines. Note: You'll need to bring your own installation discs for Windows or OS X if you want to install IE or Safari!  We'll bring free copies of the iOS and Android emulators.

Front-end testing with Selenium IDE & Holiday Potluck Dinner

Posted By: Mark Aplet 8 Comments December 06, 2010

Hello everyone, The holiday season is here and this meeting I thought it would be great if we did a potluck dinner and a short presentation followed by more merriment. Peter is excited and anxious to give a presentation on Selenium IDE to help you test your websites.

If you have never heard of Selenium before, Selenium IDE  is a Firefox add-on that records clicks, typing, and other actions to make a test, which you can play back in the browser.

Potluck Dinner

If your planning to attend and can bring something to the dinner please use the low tech rsvp method and leave a comment stating what you plan to bring. I thought that it might help alleviate to many unnecessary duplicate items.

I am bringing some pasta with marinara, (probably rigatoni or rotini) with a side of meatballs or chicken breast.
